En Portugal, muy cerca de Lisboa, hay una ciudad encantada. Llena de castillos, villas y palacetes, Sintra parece quedada en el tiempo de los reyes, la arostocracia y los cuentos de hadas. Una parada obligada si visitas Lisboa y tienes un día para ir, tele transportarte a otro mundo y viajar a otra época. Hoy les voy a contar todos los detalles y las recomendaciones de mi viaje a este destino lleno de color e historia.
A 35 minutos de Lisboa en tren, llegas a este colorido municipio Portugués ubicado en las faldas de las montañas de Sintra. Esta ciudad fue durante mucho tiempo un santuario real y por eso está lleno de villas y palacios con un colorido estilo arquitectónico romántico que la hace única y memorable. Te recomiendo tomar un bus “Hop On Hop Off”, lo encuentras a la salida de la estación de trenes, y así puedes hacer el recorrido completo sin perderte de nada. Eliges dónde te bajas y luego te vuelves a montar para continuar.
¿QUÉ HACER EN SINTRA?
El Palacio Nacional da Pena es icónico, súper fotogénico, parece sacado de un libro de cuentos de fantasía y para mi, uno de los que sin falta debes visitar; fue construido en el siglo XIX en lo más alto de una colina y la vista es impresionante. Hay tour completo para entrar al palacio o el tour por las terrazas. Yo tomé el de las terrazas y estuvo perfecto. Subimos caminando para poder conocer y recorrer El Parque Nacional Da Pena.
Quinta Da Regaleira es sin falta wow, un destino increíble. Tiene unos jardines de ensueño super elaborados y como de otro mundo llenos de construcciones decorativas con símbolos religiosos y astrológicos con una serie de pasajes secretos y cuevas ocultas super especiales. Allí están los famosos “pozos” de iniciación, donde según cuenta la historia se llevaban a cabo ceremonias de cultos. La Quinta da Regaleira como tal, es una extravagante mansión gótica del siglo XIX que está rodeada por los jardines. Es de los “castillos” más lindos que he visto y conocido.
El Cabo Da Roca es hermoso y el punto más occidental de Europa continental formado por gigantescos acantilados. Es muy lindo y tengan en cuenta que ventea mucho!
Otros destinos que vale la pena visitar son: El Santuario da Penhina, Palacio de Monserrate, El Castelo dos Mouros, El Palacio Nacional de Sintra y el Convento dos Capuchos.

In Portugal, very close to Lisbon, there is an enchanted city. Filled with castles and villas. Sintra seems to be left in the time of the kings, aristocracy and fairy tales. A must stop if you visit Lisbon and have an extra day to go and travel to another time. Today I am going to tell you all the details and my recommendations for a destination full of color and history.
35 minutes away from Lisbon by train, you arrive to a very colorful Portuguese municipality located in the foothills of the Sintra mountains. This city was for a long time a “royalty’s sanctuary” and for that reason it’s full of villas and palaces with a colorful romantic architecture that makes it so unique and memorable. I highly recommend you take a “Hop On Hop Off” bus; you find it at the exit of the train station, and so you can do the complete tour without missing anything. You choose where you get off and then you get back together to continue the chosen route.
WHAT TO DO IN SINTRA?
The Palacio Nacional da Pena is an iconic/super-photogenic castle, that looks out of a fantasy storybook and for me, a “must” destination in Sintra. It was built in the 19th century on the top of a hill and the view is impressive. There’s a complete tour to enter the palace or the tour through the terraces. I took the one of the terraces and it was perfect. We climbed walking to get to know and tour the National Park Da Pena.
Quinta Da Regaleira has the wow factor and is an incredible destination. It has super elaborate gardens full of constructions with religious and astrological symbols and a series of secret passages and hidden caves. In here there are the famous “wells” of initiation, where according to the story, ceremonies of cults were held. Quinta da Regaleira as such, is an extravagant Gothic mansion from the 19th century surrounded by the gardens. It is one of the most beautiful “castles” I’ve seen and known.
Cabo Da Roca is beautiful and the westernmost point of continental Europe formed by gigantic cliffs.
Other destinations that are worth visiting are: The Penhina Sanctuary, Monserrate Palace, The Castelo dos Mouros, The National Palace of Sintra and the Capuchos Convent.
