Travel Diaries: Bruges

Imagínate por un segundo que te trasladas a una ciudad medieval en pleno siglo XVIII, esta lleno de callesitas angostas que desembocan en canales, puentes, muchos puentes, de aquí su nombre y también un olor a malta fermentada y el mejor chocolate… despierta, has llegado y ahora estas en Brujas, una postal viviente y Patrimonio Mundial de la Unesco desde el 2000. Ahora te voy a contar como fue mi viaje y que hice, adónde fui y todo lo que considero es importante si planeas visitar esta belleza de ciudad.

Imagine for a second that you are entering  into a medieval city in the eighteenth century. It’s full of narrow streets that flow into canals, bridges, many bridges, hence its name and also a smell of fermented malt and ohhh so yummy, chocolate … wake up, you’ve arrived and now you’re in Bruges, a living postcard and an Unesco World Heritage site since 2000. Now I’ll tell you how my trip was and what I did, where did I go and everything I consider important if you plan to visit this beautiful city where the time seems to have stoped.

¿Cómo llegar? / How to get there?

Nosotros estábamos en Paris, entonces fue súper fácil. Lo que hicimos fue comprar un tiquete de bus y nos fuimos vía terrestre. La verdad nos encanto haberlo hecho así, duró aproximadamente 4 horas y se fue súper rápido. Salimos de la terminal de buses del Aeropuerto Charles de Gaulle y llegamos a la estación de trenes y buses de Brujas. De ahí, tomamos un taxi para llegar a nuestro hotel que está en el casco histórico.

Hay personas que desde viajan desde Bruselas y van solo a pasar el día; hay muchos trenes y definitivamente esta opción es muy buena si estás cerca pues Brujas es hermoso y es pequeño, se recorre fácil y rápidamente.

We were in Paris, so it was super easy and close. We bought a bus ticket and went by bus via Paris- Bruges. We really loved doing it that way. It lasted about 4 hours and it went super fast. We left from the bus terminal at the “Charles de Gaulle Airport” in Paris and arrived at the train/bus station in Bruges. From there, we took a cab to get to our hotel in the historic town. 

Some people travel from Brussels and go only to spend the day. If you want to do it like this let me tell you it’s very easy. There are so many trains and definitely this option is very good.

¿Adónde ir? / Our “must” spots & destinations:

• Grote Market o Plaza de Mercado: está llena de cafés, restaurantes y bares. Es una de las plazas principales y dónde cada Sábado se celebra el mercado semanal
• Belfort Tower: es la torre característica de Brujas y uno de los monumentos más importantes, queda cerca al Grote Market.
• Burg Platz: es otra plaza hermosa que hay y sus edificios son impresionantes. Alberga el Stadhius y la Basílica de la Santa Sangre.
• Muelle del Rosario o Rozenhodekaai: es el hermoso muelle que les muestro en las fotos. Tiene un Sauce Llorón icónico, a mi me tocó pelado por el invierno, el paisaje es súper romántico y definitivamente digno de una postal.
• Puente de San Bonifacio
• Paseo en bote por los canales / Boat ride over the canals

No te vayas sin… / When in Bruges you have to:

• Comprar y comer un buen o unos buenos CHOCOLATES / Taste the one and only, the delicious, BELGIAN CHOCOLATE
• Comer un goffre, que delicia!
• Tomar una cerveza local hecha artesanalmente / Taste the local BEER and why not have some wine with your friends.
